Senator James H. Donovan is most famous for his 14 year role as chairman of the U.S. Senate Education Committee for 14 years. He also served as chairman for the Committee of Mental Hygiene and Addiction Control, the Committee on Roads and Public Works, and the Select Committee on Mentally and Physically Handicapped.

When he passed away in 1991, numerous institutes were named in Jim Donovan’s memory. These include the Donovan Stadium at Murname Field, Donovan Memorial Park, the James H. Donovan Community Center Building, the James H. Donovan Science and Technology Buildings, the James H. Donovan Education Resource Center, and many others.
