Senator James H. Donovan, a “man of the people,” is most famous for his role as chairman of the U.S. Senate Education Committee, which he filled for fourteen years.
However, Jim Donovan served as chairman if numerous other committees as well. First, he served as chairman of the Committee on Roads and Public Works. He then continued to the Committee of Mental Hygiene and Addiction Control, as well as the Select Committee on Mentally and Physically Handicapped.
